The Flying Scotsman, Grã-Bretanha

The future policies and subsequent progress of the conservation of the railway heritage must, as with all other areas of the heritage, be based on a foundation of sound and involving scolarship. If we look for example at the outstanding success of British archeology in the last 40 years we can see a strong academic base pushing forward the boundaries of knowledge on the one hand and that new knowledge being translated directly into popular understanding on the other. Think of Animal, Vegetable and Mineral in the 1950s and 1960s, and a chronicle a few years later. The ability of archeologists to use theis new knowledge to capture the imagination of the public and use that as a route towards widespread public support for their cause offers lessons from which we can learn a lot.”
